New Automated Curbside Collection Program Begins January 1, 2016 in Orange County
Orange County, FL – Friday, January 1, will mark the start of unincorporated Orange County’s new Automated Curbside Collection Program. Orange County residents will be able to use their new 95-gallon garbage and recycling roll carts for collection of their household items. Also starting on January 1, residents should begin following their new once-per-week collection schedule (available at www.ocfl.net/CollectionSchedule) for garbage, recycling, and yard waste pickups. Under the new program, New Year’s Day is not a collection holiday and service will be provided. Large item pickup will need to be scheduled by calling the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601.
“After months of preparation, we are excited to roll this program out to Orange County residents,” said Jim Becker, manager of Orange County Utilities’ Solid Waste Division. “This program continues our efforts to make Orange County a more sustainable place to live.”
By now, all residents should have their 95-gallon roll carts for garbage and recyclables as well as their collection schedules. If carts or schedules have not been received, residents are asked to call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601. In order to receive collection service, residents should remember to follow the program guidelines:
- Place roll carts out by 6 a.m. the day of collection and with at least 3 feet of clearance at the curb.
- The roll carts should be placed on the opposite side of the mailbox, away from parked cars and low-hanging tree limbs.
- The handles should face the house.
