Drug-Free Office Hosts Educational Event for Local Youth About Substance Use Disorder Prevention

Orange County, FL – The Orange County Office for a Drug-Free Community, a division of Orange County Government, invites the community to participate in the 19th Annual Youth Prevention Conference to educate youth about substance use disorder prevention.

“This work brings attention to prevention, treatment, and recovery, and is critical to our community health initiatives,” said Dr. Thomas Hall, Manager for the Office for a Drug-Free Community. “Treatment and recovery strategies are often the focus of conversation. But youth-focused prevention is an important deterrent to developing a substance use disorder.”

This year’s theme is “Standing Tall for Prevention.” Officer Jermaine Galloway, known nationally as “Tall Cop,” is this year’s Keynote Speaker. Officer Galloway has worked in substance abuse prevention and education for more than 20 years. His program, “High in Plain Sight,” is nationally recognized and provides training, education, and enforcement strategies for community substance abuse issues.

Attendees will learn about strategies that reach young people in our community, engage youth in wellness activities, and learn about the prevention programs and agencies serving youth and adults in Orange County.
