Check it out! Mayor’s Toy Drive Gets Drop-Off Help from Orange County Library System

Community & Services

The 2023 Orange County Mayor’s Holiday Toy Drive launched November 6, and this year, additional drop-off locations have been made available at the 15 Orange County Library System branches, providing more options for people to drop off a toy. The collaboration represents a great example of how government agencies can work together on a shared goal and make an impact.

“We learned at last year’s Toy Drive recap meeting there was a strong desire to provide more drop-off locations, and we realized this would be a great way for us to get involved and help,” said Erin Sullivan, chief marketing and public relations officer, Orange County Library System. “Our branches are all high-traffic locations, so they’re perfect for toy drop offs.”

Now in its 13th year, the Orange County Mayor’s Holiday Toy Drive has collected nearly 75,000 toys and gifts that directly benefit local youth. Last year, the drive collected more than 9,000 toys and serviced Orange County Neighborhood Centers for Families and 16 other local organizations.

“People are coming to the library with their children, and this time of year they have their holiday celebrations top of mind, so they’re going to want to help other children enjoy the holidays,” said Sullivan. “Toy boxes will be front and center at every branch, and we’re going to let people know to look for them.”

For donors who prefer to purchase their toys for donation in person and drop them off at a collection site, donations will be accepted through Monday, December 11. An online shopping option is also available that allows donors to purchase items from their phone or computer. Online donations ship directly to the Orange County holiday warehouse.

“We want to help bring this joy to more families,” asserted Sullivan. “There are those who are less fortunate, and we need to remember the holiday season is about giving.”

Sullivan added that OCLS employees have embraced the initiative and have been told to have fun with the process and take pride in being part of a worthwhile community endeavor. “We feel really good about being involved in this, and we’re all committed to moving the needle and making a positive impact.”
