Mayor’s Letter

What a diverse and inclusive community we live in!

Recently, that spirit of diversity in Orange County was in the national spotlight thanks to Netflix’s hit show, Somebody Feed Phil. Host Phil Rosenthal and his team explored Orlando’s expanding array of restaurants and businesses while highlighting the unique stories of chefs, entrepreneurs and residents who make our community such a special place to live, work and play.

You have a chance to go on a culinary tour of your own later this month as we celebrate the return of #407Day. On April 7, all residents are encouraged to support their favorite local restaurants, bars and shops in honor of our region’s longtime area code. Be sure to share photos and videos of your favorite businesses with us on social media!

We have also begun celebrating Earth Month, spotlighting our sustainability and conservation efforts in Orange County. Be sure to visit our Earth Month website to learn more about the educational and engaging events we have planned over the next few weeks. There simply is too much going on in our County to limit our environmental celebrations to just one day or week!

Finally, with spring in the air, now is the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy one of the many events, festivals and parades taking place in the area, including the Florida Puerto Rican Parade and Festival. This annual event takes over the streets of downtown Orlando to celebrate the culture and contributions of our growing Puerto Rican diaspora.

Sincerely,

Jerry L. Demings
