Promoting Pedestrian Safety in the Wedgefield Community

Public Health & Safety

Orange County Public Works has recently coordinated with Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) to complete the Bancroft Boulevard Lighting Project, a 3.5-mile project to provide safe roadway lighting.

These latest improvements were funded by the County’s Accelerated Transportation Safety Program and are among various pedestrian safety improvements installed recently in the community of Wedgefield.

Safety lighting at crosswalks and intersections were installed in 2022, with the most recent work to complete the roadway lighting from Nettleton St. to Starry St. Sidewalks were constructed on the east side of the road in 2016 and on the west side of the road in 2023. New school signs with flashing beacons were installed this past summer before the school year began.

Lighting, signage and sidewalks have been identified by Orange County as proven safety countermeasures that protect pedestrians as they use this, and other, County corridors.
