Noise Complaint? Here’s Who to Call

Community & Services

Whether it is late-night music, early-morning yard work or construction during the weekend, unwanted noise can quickly disrupt the peace we expect at home. But not all noise is handled the same way in Orange County. The appropriate response depends on where the disturbance is happening and what’s causing it — and some sounds are even exempt from local regulations.

If you live in unincorporated Orange County and are affected by noise coming from another residence, or from a bar, restaurant or other establishment where alcohol is being consumed or illegal activity is suspected, contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (407) 836-4357.

If the noise originates from a nonresidential property — such as a business, industrial site or commercial operation where alcohol is not involved — contact the Orange County Environmental Protection Division at (407) 836-1468.

Residents who live within city limits should reach out to their municipal government, as cities handle noise complaints independently. Visit your city’s website or call its non-emergency number for reporting instructions.

Recent updates to Orange County’s Noise Ordinance have further clarified what constitutes excessive or unreasonable noise and established specific standards for enforcement. The ordinance also outlines exemptions for certain unavoidable or permitted sounds — such as emergency response activities, school events and approved construction work during designated hours.

No matter the source, knowing who to call helps resolve noise issues more efficiently and supports a respectful, peaceful community for everyone.
