Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs to Host 2014 Economic Summit

Orange County, FL – Mayor Teresa Jacobs will host the 2014 Orange County Economic Summit to discuss the expanding economy, business related programs and the region’s new branding initiative. The event will be held at the Orange County Convention Center. The summit is free and open to the public, although seating is limited.

WHAT: Mayor Jacobs will be joined by elected officials, local experts and distinguished panelists including:

  • Sean Snaith, Ph.D., University of Central Florida Institute for Economic Competitiveness
  • Rick Weddle, Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC)
  • Jerry Ross, National Entrepreneur Center
  • Tom O’Neal, University of Central Florida, Office of Research and Commercialization, UCF Business Incubation Program
  • Rosalina Stober, Hispanic Business Initiative Fund
  • Inez Long, Black Business Initiative Fund
    • Mayor Jacobs and the EDC will unveil a new branding initiative. The branding initiative is a key priority for Mayor Jacobs and area economic development leaders, and is designed to boost awareness of Central Florida’s business and innovation assets among targeted industry leaders and key site selectors, resulting in economic development and job creation within key sectors and industries. The branding reveal is in follow up to the 2012 Branding Summit and subsequent efforts of the EDC Regional Branding committee.
    • Sean Snaith, Ph.D., will present his annual economic update. Snaith is the director of the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Economic Competitiveness and a nationally recognized economist in the field of business and economic forecasting.
    • Via panel discussions, presentations and on-site displays, invited experts and leaders will share their insights as well as information about resources available in Orange County.

BACKGROUND: The Mayor’s annual Economic Summit was launched in 2013 following a series of nine economic and job summits designed to examine the area’s varied needs. Those meetings, which were held in 2011 and 2012, focused on key geographic regions and industries such as life sciences, clean technology and international trade. Diversifying Orange County’s economy and providing opportunity for minority business development remains a top priority, along with the development of robust incubation and entrepreneurship programs.
