Mayor Teresa Jacobs Hosts Third Annual Youth Leadership Conference

Orange County, FL – Mayor Teresa Jacobs will host her Youth Leadership Conference—with more than 200 student leaders from Orange County Public Schools—at Rollins College on Friday, February 28.

Now in its third year, the annual Conference allows students to learn about county government functions, how best to participate in community initiatives, and how to strengthen their leadership skills. The Conference covers topics such as land use & zoning, code enforcement, community service and engages the teens in mock public hearings. The students taking part in the Conference were selected by their high school principals.

Special guests from the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) Superstars and WWE Divas are scheduled make a surprise appearance during the event. The conference also features a Youth Issues Forum, a panel discussion on issues and challenges faced by this generation of students.

Mayor Jacobs will be joined by other community leaders during the mock hearings, including Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles, Chairman of the Orange County School Board Bill Sublette, Superintendent of Orange County Public Schools Dr. Barbara Jenkins, City Year Orlando Vice President and Executive Director Jordan Plante, members of Orange County’s Board of County Commissioners and school board members.

The event is open to the media, but Mayor Jacobs and selected students will only be available for interviews from 12:45 to 1 p.m.
