New Affordable Housing Development Announced In Bithlo

Orange County Government and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Partner to House Families

Orlando, FL – District 5 Orange County Commissioner Ted Edwards and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando President and CEO Catherine Steck McManus announced a joint affordable housing initiative in Bithlo today. The development will provide current residents the opportunity of affordable homeownership, addressing one of the greatest challenges facing this community. The proposed site of this development previously served as a mobile home park. Current plans call for nine homes on the identified parcels.

This joint announcement is the result of years of work by Commissioner Edwards and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando, as well as various divisions within Orange County including Code Enforcement, Real Estate Management, and Housing and Community Development.

“I am excited to provide much needed high quality housing for my constituents in Bithlo,” Commissioner Edwards said. “I know the seeds we plant today will lead to generational change in the way people live on the east side of Orange County. I appreciate the hard work and support from Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando as we work to better our community.”

“This partnership is a great example of the public and private sectors coming together to accomplish an important objective,” said Catherine Steck McManus. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Orange County Government as we work through the development process.”
