“Explore Our Parks” Launches at Magnolia, Trimble, and Barnett Parks
March 11, 2019 – Orange County Commissioner District 2 Christine Moore in conjunction with Orange County Parks & Recreation, will guide fourth-and-fifth-grade children and their families through a 30-minute experience of fun exploration at Magnolia, Trimble, and Barnett parks beginning
Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 9 a.m. at Trimble Park, 5802 Trimble Park Rd., Mt. Dora, FL 32757.
Students in these grades in District 2 public schools will receive an “Explore Our Parks” passport from their teacher. They will bring the “passport” to any of the participating parks during regular park hours, and start their tour with their parent or another adult at the Super Science Center display board set up at each location. Adults will find their “Explore Our Parks” adult/student guide at the Super Science Center display board. The guide details four science activities to complete. Once a child is finished with the four activities, their “passport” will be punched by a staff member upon exiting the park. Each student is eligible to earn a Certificate of Completion at the end-of-year awards program at school.
District 2 students join all others in public schools in Florida in taking their annual state assessment exams. In fifth grade, science is tested.
In conjunction with Orange County Public Schools, “Explore Our Parks” is designed to teach children important science facts while they have fun exploring nature. The program is free to all, and takes about 30 minutes to finish.
“Parks in District 2 provide so much enjoyment for our families, including a great way to learn about plants, animals, and other science topics. I am so excited to introduce this free program and meet our families,” said Orange County Commissioner District 2 Christine Moore.
On March 16, 2019, join Commissioner Moore and friends for the launch at Trimble Park from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Magnolia Park, 2929 S. Binion Rd., Apopka, FL 32703 from noon until 1:30 p.m., and Barnett Park, 4801 W. Colonial Dr., Orlando, FL 32808 from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The program runs through April 30, 2019 with the Super Science Center open during park hours.
