Statement from Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings on COVID-19, Restaurants and Bars | March 17, 2020

Mayor Jerry L. Demings SealThe Florida Department of Health has informed me that currently (as of March 17, 2020) Orange County has 6 confirmed cases of COVID-19.  This is an increase from Monday, when we announced Orange County had four confirmed cases.

The fifth case is a 40-year-old female who is in self-isolation.  The sixth case is a 51-year-old male who is also in self-isolation.  No other details about these cases were shared with me.

Today, Governor DeSantis announced new guidelines for bars, nightclubs and restaurants. In unincorporated Orange County, we will follow the governor’s Executive Order. To that end, we ask that bars, pubs and nightclubs close for the next 30 days.

For restaurants, the Executive Order limits patrons and workers to 50% of a restaurant’s current capacity. It also mandates that a restaurant follow CDC guidelines by ensuring at minimum, a six-foot distance between any groups of patrons and limiting parties to no more than 10 individuals.

For more details, view the Executive Order. I highly encourage our residents to utilize expanded take-out and curbside services or delivery options at our local restaurants. We ask that our residents and businesses take these steps now, in order to limit exposure to the Coronavirus.
