Orange County Animal Services Sets Goal of 150 Pet Adoptions Over Three Days

The shelter will host an adoption event while participating in another the same weekend.

Orange County, FL – Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) has announced a goal of placing 150 pets from Friday, May 17 through Sunday, May 19. The shelter will be participating in a massive adoption event in the Tampa area while back at the shelter, adoptions fees for both cats and dogs will be reduced to $10.

“Behind the scenes we’ve put a lot of care into organizing the effort of this weekend, hoping for a big success for both our pets travelling to the event and those staying at the shelter,” said Diane Summers, Manager for Orange County Animal Services. “150 would be a massive adoption weekend, but we believe it’s possible with the support of our community.”

Shelter staff will be in Plant City to participate in the second annual “Mega Adoption Event” held in the Grimes Family Agricultural Center at the Florida Strawberry Festival Fairgrounds. The 3-day event will feature more than 300 dogs from municipal shelters in Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Marion, Orange, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sumter counties. All dogs featured during the event will have been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. Adoption fees will also be waived.

“We participated in the ‘Mega Adoption Event’ last year for one day and it was a success, with several dogs finding new homes,” said Summers. “We’re attending all three days this year and bringing approximately 20 dogs who are prime adoption candidates. This event is great for anyone in the central Florida area who is considering adopting a dog.”

The second annual “Mega Adoption Event” runs from Friday, May 17 to Sunday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2508 W. Oak Avenue in Plant City. The event is made possible by the support of the Pet Resources Foundation, Team Godwin Foundation, Friends of Animal Services – Pasco County and the Florida Strawberry Festival.
