Statement from Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings on the shooting in downtown Orlando | November 1, 2024

Mayor Demings' Seal“I offer my sincere condolences to the victims and families of this morning’s senseless shooting in downtown Orlando. Unfortunately, these acts of violence continue to mar gatherings like last night’s celebration of Halloween. The shooting accentuates the challenges we face with gun violence. We need to make more progress in taking guns out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them, including teenagers. Orange County allocated additional funding this year to support youth-related programs that offer teens positive alternatives to the type of activities that lead to juvenile delinquency and violence. It will take all of us working together to come up with solutions.”

– Jerry L. Demings, Orange County Mayor
