Orange County Launches “Building Affordable Orange” Training Series
New Program will help nonprofit and faith-based organizations expand affordable housing opportunities
Orange County, FL — Orange County has launched Building Affordable Orange, a new training and technical assistance program designed to help nonprofit organizations and faith-based institutions develop affordable housing projects and expand housing opportunities for residents.
Delivered in partnership with the Florida Housing Coalition, the program provides participants with the tools, knowledge, and guidance needed to navigate the affordable housing development process and strengthen their capacity to serve the community. The five-part training series began on June 10 and will continue throughout the year.
Building Affordable Orange supports Orange County’s Housing for All 10-Year Action Plan, an ambitious effort to produce or preserve 11,000 affordable housing units by 2030. The program also complements the County’s Affordable Housing for Religious Institutional Lands (AHRIL) initiative, which helps streamline the development of affordable housing on qualifying religious properties.
“Meeting Orange County’s housing needs requires strong partnerships and a growing network of organizations equipped to develop affordable housing,” said Mitchell Glasser, Manager of Orange County’s Housing and Community Development Division. “Building Affordable Orange will help nonprofit and faith-based organizations build the expertise needed to create new housing opportunities and expand their impact in the communities they serve.”
Participants will receive training on affordable housing development, nonprofit housing programs, funding opportunities, regulatory requirements, and organizational capacity building. Organizations interested in pursuing designation as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) will also receive guidance on that process.
For decades, the Florida Housing Coalition has provided training and technical assistance to communities across the state and is widely recognized for its expertise in affordable housing policy, community development, nonprofit capacity building, and federal housing programs.
