Orange County Government Takes Action on the Unsafe Living Conditions at Tymber Skan on the Lake Condominiums
County will aid residents caught in precarious situation
Orange County, FL – Today, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners voted to initiate the process to terminate the condominium associations within the Tymber Skan on the Lake condominium complex and to petition for a termination trustee to manage the partition action and the sale of the property.
Despite several erroneous media reports, Orange County is not selling or tearing down Tymber Skan. Today’s action begins a legal process that could ultimately result in the sale and redevelopment of the property.
Located off South Texas Avenue and on the shores of Lake Catherine, Tymber Skan has suffered a steady 20-year decline into disrepair and blight. Only 8 of the 49 original buildings remain, and many residents have abandoned or lost their homes. Trash dumping, unsafe structures, and precarious conditions plague the property despite the county investing more than $3.5 million into stabilization efforts.
“After many years of working to stabilize the community of Tymber Skan and its multiple HOAs, it became necessary to take action to protect the residents,” said Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings. “The property is unsafe and presents a danger to those who live there. We are committed to assisting the existing residents with resources for a smooth transition.”
Orange County’s Citizen Resource and Outreach Division will work directly with impacted residents to provide individualized services and support based on each household’s unique needs. Each household will be assigned a dedicated Case Manager who will serve as their primary point of contact, connecting residents with available resources and providing ongoing support.
“My hope is that this action will be the beginning of a revitalization that brings not only physical improvements but also a safer and brighter future for all existing residents. We will work together to ultimately transform the property into something better for our community,” said Mayor Demings.
