Lifetime Achievement Award Presented to Orange County Leader David Gregory
Orange County, FL – David Gregory, Manager of the Solid Waste Management Division for Orange County Utilities, was recently honored by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Florida Sunshine Chapter, with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for decades of dedication.
Officially recognized during the SWANA-Florida Summer Conference in Orlando, the award was bestowed on Gregory for his unwavering commitment to the solid waste sector during his more than 40-year career.
In his role at Orange County Utilities, Gregory oversees a robust curbside collection program that services nearly 240,000 households with nearly 1 million stops a week and all solid waste facilities, including the state’s largest publicly owned landfill and two transfer stations.
“We’re grateful for David’s ongoing commitment to his role at Orange County Utilities,” said Marc Cannata, Director. “This award is an extremely well-deserved honor for his expertise and many contributions to the industry and community over the years.”
Under Gregory’s leadership, Orange County has an award-winning Recycling Quality Improvement Program that features cart monitors who provide direct household feedback as part of an effort to reduce contamination of recycled materials. Previously low recycling rates have improved to more than 95% accepted loads as part of this program.
Throughout his career, Gregory has significantly contributed through public and private roles, and has retained his involvement in SWANA, which is the largest solid waste association in North America.
A Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Gregory earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.; an MBA from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton; and a Master’s degree in environmental engineering science from the University of Florida in Gainesville.
