Orange County Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council to Pay Tribute to Gold Star Mother’s & Family’s Day

Ceremony set for Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Noon

WHAT:
The Orange County Mayor’s Veterans Advisory Council will host the Annual Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day Ceremony. The ceremony will recognize Gold Star families who have lost a loved one during any war or hostilities in which the U.S. Armed Forces were engaged. This year’s ceremony will honor nearly 60 fallen service members with a tribute video. Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings will present each Gold Star family with a proclamation.

There will be two keynote speakers: Lorrie Fleming, President of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., and mother of Sergeant Terry M. Tisk, U.S. Army; and Kenneth Conde Sr., Gold Star father of Sergeant Kenneth Conde Jr., U.S. Marine Corps.

The last Sunday in September is designated as Gold Star Mother’s Day. Congress established the observance in 1936, and President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first presidential proclamation that year, calling for the public to observe it as an expression of love, sorrow, and reverence for Gold Star Mother’s. On September 23, 2011, President Barack Obama issued an official proclamation amending Gold Star Mother’s Day to include the broader family and renaming it Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day.
