Orange County Mosquito Control Crews Target Spraying After Report of Dengue Fever
Orange County, FL – Orange County Mosquito Control announced today its crews are focusing on spraying for the mosquito known to carry the arbovirus dengue. The Florida Department of Health in Orange County (DOH-Orange) confirmed a human case of locally-acquired dengue on September 2, 2026. Residents are encouraged to take basic precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.
“This virus is spread only by mosquitoes,” said Steve Harrison, manager of Orange County Mosquito Control. “A person can contract dengue only after being bitten by a mosquito carrying the virus. The mosquito becomes infected by biting a person who has the virus.”
According to Orange County Mosquito Control, the species that primarily transmits dengue typically does not travel far and tends to remain close to where it was infected. At the direction of DOH Orange, Orange County is focusing its mosquito control efforts in the areas of concern to help prevent further transmission.
Orange County Mosquito Control regularly sprays for mosquitoes around the county. All chemicals used are approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and are safe for use around humans and animals.
