Dorie Miller Wreath Laying Ceremony 36 Photos

The Orange County Mayor Veterans Advisory Council commemorated the Pearl Harbor 80th anniversary with a wreath laying ceremony at the Doris “Dorie” Miller statue in Orlando at the American Legion Post 311. Dorie Miller was an American Mess Man Third Class in the United States Navy who manned an anti-aircraft gun and attended to the wounded during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was the first African American awarded the Navy Cross.

On December 7, 2021, Council Chair Daila “Dee” Espeut-Jones, 1SG, US Army (Ret) presented the Doris “Dorie” Miller Remembrance Day proclamation to the American Legion Post 331. Inc and Vice Chair Fred Robinson, Sgt, USMC (Veteran) presented the 80th National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day proclamation to four WWII veterans: Sallie Amato, Louis Boria, Jr., Carl Coleman and 103-year-old Robert Hodge.
