Forum on Vaping Highlights Health Risks for Adolescents

Public Health & Safety

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings welcomed doctors from Nemours Children’s Health System during a community forum and panel discussion on vaping, which was held on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Board of County Commissioners’ Chambers.  The event was held to answer questions regarding the health risks, symptoms, and what parents and teens need to know about vaping-related illnesses.

Nationwide, more than 1,000 cases of vaping-related illnesses have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 48 states and one U.S. territory this year. There have been 18 deaths in 15 states.

In Florida, the Department of Health reports that there has been one death and 39 confirmed cases of lung injury associated with vaping in the state as of Oct. 1, 2019.
