Orange County Convention Center Helps Enhance Sustainability Initiatives in Orange County

As a leader in environmental stewardship, the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) plays an important role in integrating sustainability into Orange County’s core strategy. Boasting one of the most innovative, large-scale, award-winning sustainability programs in the United States, the OCCC continues to contribute to sustainability goals countywide, by driving efficiency and optimizing daily operations.

The OCCC’s Sustainability Coordinator John Roberts has been selected to represent the OCCC as a member of a cross-departmental Sustainability and Resiliency Team. With goals to enhance the county’s sustainable performance and accelerate sustainability initiatives, this team will develop the 2030 Orange County Sustainable Operations and Resilience Action Plan.

“I am delighted to be chosen to help drive sustainability within Orange County,” stated Roberts.“Over the years, Orange County has gradually become more and more eco-conscious, and I am excited to be a part of Mayor Demings’ plans to accelerate this further.”

Attracting an estimated 1.5 million attendees to the region annually, the OCCC plays a major role in protecting Orange County’s sustainable footprint. The Center’s innovative strategies stretch from growing and harvesting more than 44,000 fresh, non-GMO plants, directly from the OCCC’s Center-to-Table Gardens, to supporting sustainable energy by maintaining the largest municipal solar array in the Southeast United States. Covering an area equivalent to five football fields, the energy produced by the OCCC’s stunning solar setup has the ability to powermore than 200 homes each year.
