Orange County is home to six districts, and each has a distinct personality when it comes to history, natural beauty, parks and recreation options, resident diversity and business opportunities. District 4 Commissioner Maribel Gomez Cordero, a clinical therapist who has dedicated herself to serving the Central Florida community, gave us her Top 5 things to know about her District:

  1. Orlando International Airport

District 4 is home to the rapidly growing Orlando International Airport. In 2019, it welcomed 50,613,072 passengers, making it the busiest airport in the state and the 10th busiest airport in the United States. It provides jobs and connects the entire world with Orange County’s famous attractions and parks.

  1. Lake Nona

Lake Nona, known as a community of and for the future, is the fastest-growing area in Orlando. It is the epicenter of opportunity and was highlighted in Worth Magazine for its futuristic vision. Encompassing 17-square-miles and located adjacent to the Orlando International Airport, Lake Nona is a modern mecca for technology, innovation and community.

  1. Diversity

District 4 is proud to have one of the most diverse populations, including having one of the largest Hispanic populations that call this District home. The area is also rich in different languages, cultures, cuisines and holidays that the community can learn about and enjoy.

  1. History

In District 4 lies the community of Taft, which has a long and storied history of both success and resilience to misfortune. Today, it stands as a testament to its residents who, over the years, have stuck together to establish and maintain a neighborhood that still encapsulates small town life and the values and fellowship associated with “community.” The Taft Historical Society meets at the Taft Community Center every second Thursday of the month. Within District 4 is one of the largest malls in Central Florida, providing residents and visitors with plenty of space and options to shop. The Florida Mall provides many job opportunities to residents and provide an enjoyable shopping experience to all of our visitors.
