Making Spirits Bright: Guang Ming Temple/BLIA Donates Hundreds of Toys to Mayor’s Holiday Toy Drive
The Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Florida Chapter made a generous donation to the annual Orange County Mayor’s Holiday Toy Drive. On December 5, 2025, nine members and volunteers, led by Chapter President Conchita Hsu, delivered more than 600 donated toys to the Shop & Drop event with Fox 35 at the Walmart Supercenter on E. Colonial Drive.
Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings thanked the delegation for their generosity and explained that caring for the community is a collective responsibility rather than an individual effort.
The donated toys included high-quality extracurricular reading materials for children, LEGO sets, basketballs and soccer balls for recreational activities, educational board games, and more. Over the years, the Mayor’s Holiday Toy Drive has distributed more than 100,000 toys and gifts with the support of Orange County residents.
President Conchita Hsu called for greater attention to underprivileged children during the holiday season, emphasizing the importance of helping them feel valued and cared for rather than isolated or marginalized. She expressed hope that the toy donations would serve as a reminder for the community to prioritize the well-being of children in need.
BLIA Florida Chapter Vice President Shirley Chen noted that the Mayor’s Holiday Toy Drive not only strengthened engagement with community residents but also allowed more people to witness the association’s care and contributions. The chapter’s leadership is also looking into exploring future collaborations with the Mayor’s initiatives.
