Orange County’s Drug-Free Community Coalition Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Orange County, FL – Orange County’s Drug-Free Community Coalition, a division of Orange County Government, will celebrate 25 years of service to Orange County residents on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Lake Eola Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Live Fest” will celebrate the contributions of community partners in preventing and treating substance use disorders.

“Over the past quarter-century, the Orange County Drug-Free Community Coalition has been committed to fostering a healthier Orange County,” said Dr. Thomas Hall, Manager for the Orange County’s Drug-Free Community Coalition. “I am proud to be part of a community that celebrates evidence-informed substance use-related prevention, treatment, and recovery.”

Former U.S. Senator and Orange County Mayor Mel Martinez will be among the speakers at the celebration. In 1999, then-Mayor Martinez led the effort to establish Orange County’s Drug-Free Community Coalition in response to an alarming number of overdoses in Orange County.

“During his service as Mayor of Orange County, Senator Martinez envisioned the benefit of community leaders and volunteers working together to promote a healthier community. Twenty-five years later, the Coalition remains vital to Orange County Government’s commitment to the health and well-being of county residents,” said Dr. Hall.

“Live Fest” will also feature Orange County Animal Services Paws 4 Recovery pet adoption, live performances, food trucks, informational tables from community organizations and businesses, and activities for children, such as face painting, games, and an area dedicated to arts and crafts.

Local organizations that would like to have a table for the event can apply by filling out the vendor participation form no later than September 10, 2024. Organizations must provide their tables, tents, and chairs. The form can be found by visiting this link: https://shorturl.at/zqieR
