Orange County Launches Heroin Task Force to Address the Increase in the Drug’s Use

A recent study released by the Centers for Disease Control shows the number of heroin users in the U.S. has grown by more than 300,000 in the last decade. According to the 2013 Florida Medical Examiner’s Annual Report, deaths caused by heroin increased by 78.7 percent in the state when compared to 2012. In Orange County, there were a total of 90 deaths associated with heroin in 2014, which is an 84 percent increase from 2013.

Automated Garbage and Recycling 1-1-1 Collection Coming to Homeowners in Unincorporated Orange County January 1

Beginning January 1, 2016, homeowners in unincorporated Orange County will have a new curbside collection program. Tuesday’s vote by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners in support of 1-1-1 Automated Garbage and Recycling Collection will usher in a number of changes for the County’s homeowners. These include a new, 95-gallon County-issued roll cart for garbage, a second 95-gallon roll cart for mixed recyclables, and a reduction in the frequency of garbage collection from twice a week

Orange County Utilities invites Orange County residents to its Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste* Community Collection Event on Saturday, July 18, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at East Orange County Service Center located at 12050 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32826. Participants will have the opportunity to properly dispose of hazardous and electronic waste – free of charge.
