Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings Marks Accomplishments in First 100 Days
Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings took the Oath of Office on Dec. 4, 2018 and remains committed to building a community that works for everyone. Marking his 100th day in office, Mayor Demings is prioritizing the needs of local residents through innovation, collaboration and inclusiveness. A summary of those accomplishments were released today.
Throughout his four decades of public service, Mayor Demings has listened and gained a broad understanding of the community.
- Allocated an additional and reoccurring $20 million dollars annually for children’s services
- Earmarked $8 million through 2024 for culturally diverse organizations and programs
- Provided $1.8 million for our most vulnerable residents, Orange County’s homeless population
- Launched a unified strategy to increase the amount of Affordable Housing in the community
- Brought back a dedicated Public Safety Director at Orange County Government
- Through a reorganization of Orange County’s structure, streamlined services to be more nimble
“We are embarking on a new era in economic prosperity as we draw on our strengths and our renewed regional alliance to bring opportunity to all Central Floridians,” Mayor Demings said. “It’s been 100 days and we are making great strides. I can’t wait to see what our future holds, and we’re just getting started.”
The first 100 days has symbolic significance for Mayor Demings’ first term as a trailblazer and as Orange County’s first African-American Mayor. As a benchmark measuring the success of Mayor Demings’ vision and staff appointments, his legacy and commitment to public service continues. First, as Orlando’s first African-American police chief in 1998 and then as the first elected African-American Orange County Sheriff in 2008 – he was re-elected in 2012 and again in 2016.
Mayor Demings plans to highlight more achievements at his first State of the County on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Orange County Convention Center.
