Orange County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Named Chair of National Training Publication Committee

Orange County, FL – Orange County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Brian Morrow has been named Chair for the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA) Strategy and Tactics textbook committee. In this role, Chief Morrow will have an important leadership role in crafting the textbooks used to teach firefighters around the world.

Chief Morrow will lead the committee reviewing and updating Structural Fire Fighting: Initial Strategy and Tactics. This text teaches front-line fire officers how to make key decisions in the first few minutes after arriving at a fire scene. The decisions made by the first officers make a dramatic difference in saving lives and protecting property.

For more than ten years, Chief Morrow has been working with IFSTA on the validation committees for a variety of fire service textbooks. In his new capacity as chairman, he will facilitate the conversation between fire service experts worldwide to create a complete and cohesive learning tool. Chief Morrow describes the experience as “the best learning tool any firefighter can get involved in” because he is learning from the combined experience of firefighters and officers from around the world.

Chief Morrow is a 27 year veteran of Orange County Fire Rescue. He currently serves as the A-Shift commander, overseeing all firefighting operations in Orange County during a 24 hour period. IFSTA was founded in 1934 to fill the need for training materials for the fire service. Each year, fire service professionals and subject matter experts meet to ensure the texts are up to date. Chief Morrow anticipates the new edition of Structural Fire Fighting: Initial Strategy and Tactics will be completed in mid-2015.
