Orange County Fire Rescue Welcomes the Community to Adopt a Fire Station During the Holiday Season

Orange County, FL – This holiday season, Orange County Fire Rescue will be participating in Adopt a Fire Station – an event focused on bringing holiday cheer to firefighters as they work through the holiday season.

The purpose of Adopt a Fire Station is to provide community groups with an opportunity volunteer their time with Orange County firefighters over the holidays. Local businesses, organizations and neighboring communities are welcomed to schedule a visit to an Orange County Fire Rescue station to visit with firefighters and tour the station. Visitors may bring food or holiday treats to the stations if desired.

“This is a heart-warming and humbling event for our firefighters,” says Orange County Fire Chief Otto Drozd III. “It is a wonderful feeling to have the community say thank you while our firefighters spend the holiday season away from their families. We are excited to host the events at our stations.”

Orange County’s Fire Rescue Department and Neighborhood Preservation & Revitalization Division have teamed up to make the event bigger and better than previous years. Mayor Teresa Jacobs started this initiative in 2012, and the event has since grown in interest and participation. With 29 of the 41 fire stations adopted last year, Orange County Fire Rescue is striving for all 41 stations to be adopted over the holidays.

The event takes place throughout November and December. To participate in Adopt a Fire Station, contact Tiana Davis with Orange County Neighborhood Preservation & Revitalization Division at 407-836-5531 or Tiana.Davis@ocfl.net.
