Community & Services

Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) released their 2018 statistics, highlighting another record year for adoptions, administration services, social media outreach and more. Shelter accomplishments for 2018 include:

  • OCAS facilitated 8,421 pet adoptions; 4,108 dogs and 4,313 cats. That number is up from 2017, which stood at 8,412.
  • Live-release rates increased to 78 percent, up from 73 percent in 2017.
  • OCAS’ Facebook page achieved a total of 54,000 followers, nearly a 10 percent increase from the prior year.
  • Volunteers logged 23,000 hours at OCAS, enough to staff 12 full-time employees.
  • Foster program participants increased 266 percent, with 183 foster parents participating, up from 50 in 2017. Each foster parent represents a pair of open arms for a sick or infant animal needing temporary care.

OCAS is hopeful to see continued growth and success in 2019. Follow OCAS on Facebook to keep up with shelter news and info. To learn more about adoption, volunteering or becoming a foster parent, visit www.ocnetpets.com.

OCAS is Central Florida’s largest pet rescue and adoption center. Last year, Animal Services received nearly 18,000 animals at its shelter. For more nearly 50 years, the agency’s mission has been to protect the residents and animals of Orange County. Its vision is to give abandoned and neglected pets a second chance to live long, healthy lives in safe, loving homes.
