Mayor Jacobs Kicks-Off 2013 Summer of Service Initiative

Orange County, FL – Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs announced today the start of the 2013 Summer of Service initiative, a month-long project featuring volunteer service events and opportunities through which citizens can become involved to serve their community. This is the second year that the initiative takes place.

From June 24th through July 20th, Orange County citizens are invited to make a commitment to volunteer on at least one community service activity. The initiative begins with a community clean-up and storm drain labeling event on Saturday, June 29. Volunteers will give of their time in the neighborhoods surrounding Ward Park in Winter Park to help clear debris and tag storm drains with “no dumping” labels. Additional activities are scheduled throughout the month.

Individuals and groups are able to choose from events taking place across Orange County, as well as seek information on activities occurring year-round.
