Orange County Animal Services to Hold “Wheel of Furtune” Adoption Event

Visitors are urged to spin for reduced adoption fees during the April 13, 2024, event.

Orange County Animal ServicesOrange County, FL – Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) announced it will host a “Wheel of Furtune” adoption event on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Guests will be invited to spin a large wheel, which features a dozen adoptable dogs, specially selected by staff. Once the wheel lands on a particular dog, the guest will have the opportunity to meet that pet and, if they choose to adopt it, they can do so for the reduced rate of $13.

“We’ve really challenged ourselves to hold creative events every few weeks to keep people interested and coming to the shelter,” said Diane Summers, Manager for Orange County Animal Services. “This year we’ve held a dog’s birthday party, a speed dating event, and a St. Patrick’s Day adopt-a-thon. Those events sparked interest and awareness for our homeless shelter pets and so we’re gambling that this event will be just as successful by finding homes for several of our featured dogs.”

Thor (A540334) is one of the lucky dogs featured on the wheel. He’s been at the shelter since January of this year. Thor has been featured on the shelter’s social media platforms multiple times throughout this stay. A recent reel of him enjoying an outing with staff on a Starbucks pup-cup run garnered nearly 350,000 views, but still no takers for a new home. A volunteer recently described Thor by saying, “This is a great dog. Very sweet and chill, with a great disposition. Loves treats, loves attention and getting petted.”

“There are amazing dogs here, like Thor, who have gone unnoticed for weeks or even months,” said Summers. “In planning this event we carefully selected those dogs, who are great adoption candidates, who just need an extra push.”

To spin the “Wheel of Furtune,” Animal Services invites the public to visit the shelter at 2769 Conroy Road in Orlando on April 13 between 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. Available pets can be viewed on the shelter’s website, along with information on the adoption process.
